Security Services undertake route march in Sekondi/Takoradi
Personnel of the security agencies in the Western Region, joined by the Regional Minister, Mr. E.K.T. Addo today undertook an 11-kilometre route march to assure the public of their readiness to deal with any lawless acts that may follow the Supreme Court verdict in the election petition.
The security personnel drawn from the Ghana Army, Ghana Air Force, Ghana Navy, Ghana Police, Immigration, Prisons and Fire services and their respective service commanders marched through principal streets in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis.
The march, which lasted for about four hours started from Sekondi at about 5a.m. and went through the main Sekondi-Takoradi road to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital and then to the Takoradi Polytechnic.
It continued through Housing, East and West Tanokrom through the Nkrumah Roundabout, airport junction, Market Circle and the Kofi Annan Road before ending at the premises of Rapid Deployment Force unit of the Ghana Police Service at Takoradi at 9a.m.
The men, officers and the commanding officers dressed in their uniforms walked briskly with the various contingents providing songs to rally their colleagues while members of the general public lined the sides of the streets in admiration.
At the end of the march, the regional minister commended the security services for the smart turnout and urged them to always defend the interest of the country.
He said “In society, where there is no law and order is bound to fail and it is important for Ghanaians to respect the country’s democratic process and have faith in the judicial process.”
He said the march was not to intimidate anybody, but to reassure the people of the country that the security agencies are very capable of ensuring their safety and security.
He expressed the hope that the peace loving Ghanaian would not resort to any act that would derail the progress of the country.
