GES releases SHS calendar, sets September 18 reopening
Senior High School (SHS) and Senior High Technical School (SHTS) students across the country will resume classes on September 18, 2026, following the release of the 2026/2027 academic calendar by the Ghana Education Service (GES).
The calendar, issued on June 1, 2026, sets out academic activities for both Single Track and Transitional schools, including semester dates, vacation periods and examination schedules.
Under the calendar, Form One and Form Two students in Single Track schools will begin the academic year on September 18, 2026, and complete it on July 30, 2027.
Form Three students in both Single Track and Transitional schools are expected to complete their academic year on June 18, 2027.
The date also marks the end of the 2027 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which is scheduled to run from April 6 to June 18, 2027.
The calendar indicates that Transitional schools will continue to operate a blended system that combines classroom instruction with periods of online learning.
It also provides for a Christmas break from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, and an Easter break from March 25 to March 30, 2027.
Form Two students will additionally have a mid semester break from June 17 to June 20, 2027.
GES has asked school heads, teachers, parents and students to take note of the calendar and make the necessary preparations for the academic year.
