SLOPSA 1999 refurbishes library for school

The 1999 batch of the St Louis Past Students Association (SLOPSA) has handed over the school’s refurbished library to the school at a cost of GH¢30,000.

The entire library block was maintained by the batch on the occasion of their 20th anniversary as former students of St Louis Senior High School in Kumasi.

The maintenance works included painting, masonry works, ceiling, bulbs replaced with LED bulbs, new ceiling fans and old curtains replaced with new blinds.

The President of the group, Mrs Anita Osei-Bonsu, said the batch was motivated to also give back to their alma mater when the 1994/96 batch handed over a 1,000-seater dining hall to the school.

She said the group settled on the school’s library which had not seen any major refurbishment after it was inaugurated in 1999, before their batch left the school, and so they deemed it a great responsibility to give back.

Mrs Osei-Bonsu urged the students to see it as a privilege to be associated with St Louis and work hard to maintain its image as a school with academic excellence and discipline to make it in life.

Apart from the maintenance, the group added new sets of furniture and about 400 new library books.

Prior to the handover ceremony, the batch joined the school in a thanksgiving mass.

The Headmistress of the school, Ms Ama Keyerewaa Benefo, expressed her gratitude to the group for giving back to the school and called on other year groups to come on board to help build their alma mater.

Ms Benefo, who is first past student to rise to that level, gave an assurance to help position the school as one of the best second-cycle institutions in the country.
