St Theresa’s Catholic Church goes on health walk

The Parish Priest of the St Theresa’s Catholic Church at Kaneshie in Accra, Rev. Father Johannes Mintah-Mensah, has underscored the need for the public to not engage in acts that will disrupt peace and order in the country.

He called on politicians, political parties and the public to conduct their activities in a manner that would enhance the country’s democratic process as the general election drew closer.

Rev. Fr Mintah-Mensah said this when he spoke to the Daily Graphic in Accra last Saturday during the church’s health walk as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary.

“Leaders are servants, so you cannot claim to want to lead if you do so in violence. Whatever we do must be targeted at promoting peace and bringing people together,” he said.

He said a jubilee celebration, as spelt out in the Bible, was to be used to show mercy, make amends and support the poor and needy in society.

Father Mintah-Mensah said to raise the fallen moral standards in the society, the church should have a positive impact on the lives of the people they related with.

Health Walk
The Chairman of the church’s pastoral council, Mr Barnabas Cudjoe, said the health walk was meant to create awareness of the 50th anniversary of the church, evangelise to win more souls, and keep fit to proclaim the goodness of the Lord.

“We want people to know that there is no need in condemning others. Rather, we are sending a message to the public to carry the weak and vulnerable along. As you can see, all categories of people are participating in this walk,” he said

The walk, which started on the church’s premises at the Awudome Roundabout, involved the majority of the church members, who went through the streets of Abossey Okai, Kaneshie, Darkuman and Bubiashie.

They carried placards, some of which read “Jesus Never Fails”; “Repent and Come to Jesus”; “Jesus is Awesome”; and Jesus Heals the Sick.”

In a well-organised and coordinated float, amid dancing to gospel songs and brass band music, the members distributed flyers and biblical literature to the public, urging them to repent and accept Christ as their saviour.
