STAR-Ghana holds session with public
Star-Ghana has held an information session to brief the public about its Election 2016 call for proposals.

The session was attended by participants from civil society organisations (CSOs), the media, the clergy, the arts and entertainment, the academia among others.
The call for proposals, which has two components – open component and strategic component – aimed at contributing to peaceful, credible, issues-based and inclusive elections in 2016, was held at the W.E.B. Du Bois Centre in Accra yesterday.
Components
Some of the components for consideration are peace and security, voter education, electoral reform, adjudication of disputes, observation and monitoring of elections, and inclusiveness and participation.
Other components are reforms of the Electoral Commission including its composition and governance, appointment of commissioners and ways of working, creation and demarcation of constituencies and integrity and inclusiveness of the voters register.
The rest are financing of elections and the Electoral Commission, election peace and security, political parties and election campaign financing and electoral justice that includes adjudication and litigation.
The Country Director of Christian Aid, the fund managers, Ms Joyce Ashun, giving an overview at the meeting, reminded organisations that would submit proposals to indicate how the project represented value for money.
She also tasked them to endeavour to show “evidence of partnerships or other collaborations with relevant state and non-state actors to implement the proposed project”.

“Indicate how learning from the projects would be fed into future election cycles, as well as how issues of gender and social inclusion would be mainstreamed and addressed in the project,” she added.
Budgeting for projects
The Head of Finance of STAR-Ghana, Miss Harriet Asomani, took participants through budgeting for projects and asked participants to prepare their budgets to synchronise with the project proposals.
In his presentation, the Project Director of STAR-Ghana, Mr Ibrahim Tanko, urged participants to show “throughout in your project proposals the place of gender, minority interests and persons with disabilities”. He also asked participants to indicate their organisations’ capacity and how it related to election call.
He said the current phase of STAR-Ghana built on previous programme with a new strategic focus on facilitating and supporting processes and interventions which aim at systemic changes in socio-economic and political institutions and structures in Ghana.
In order to expand the opportunity for as many organisations as possible to put in proposals, Mr Tanko announced that similar information sessions would be held in Takoradi and Sunyani today.
