The donation, made during a brief ceremony at Dominion University College in Accra, aims to ease Isaiah’s academic journey by improving his mobility on campus and providing essential resources for his studies in statistics.

The initiative was spearheaded by President of the GSA, Professor Nicholas N.N. Nsowah-Nuamah, after hearing Isaiah’s story on Joy News.

Moved by the young student's determination and resilience in pursuing higher education despite his physical limitations, Professor Nwomah felt compelled to act.

The GSA’s act of generosity is part of its broader commitment to supporting persons with disabilities, promoting inclusivity, and ensuring that individuals with diverse needs have access to education and the tools necessary to reach their full potential.

Determination

Speaking during the donation ceremony, Professor Nwomah expressed his admiration for Isaiah’s perseverance.

“I was deeply touched by Isaiah’s story. His tenacity in overcoming physical challenges to pursue his academic dreams inspired a strong sense of responsibility to do something to support him.”

“At GSA, we believe in creating opportunities and offering whatever assistance is needed for people like Isaiah to thrive,” he said.

Professor Nwomah, along with Isaiah’s friends, raised funds to purchase a wheelchair to ensure that he could move easily around campus.

In addition to the wheelchair, the GSA provided books and other educational materials to support his studies.

“We feel privileged to support Isaiah in this way. This is not just about giving him a wheelchair; it’s about empowering him to pursue his academic goals with independence and dignity.”

“We trust that this gesture will make a significant difference in his life and help him achieve success,” Professor Nwomah added.

Gratitude

The donation event was attended by senior members of the GSA, including the association’s Vice-President, Professor Ezekiel N. N. Nortey, and Deputy General Secretary, James Amewudah. Isaiah’s family was also present, expressing their gratitude for the much-needed support.

With visible emotion, Isaiah thanked the GSA for the generous donation, saying: “This wheelchair and the educational materials will make a huge difference in my life.”

“Now, I can move around campus more easily and focus on my studies without the constant worry of struggling to get around. I’m deeply

grateful to Professor Nwomah and the GSA for their kindness and generosity,” Mr Awuku said.

Mr Awuku’s mother also expressed her appreciation, stating, “This wheelchair will bring so much ease to Isaiah’s life. It will allow him to be more independent and focused on his studies. We are extremely grateful for this timely support.”
