Move back to site and complete work- Gov’t advisor on health to Agenda 111 hospital contractors

The Government Advisor on Health, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, has asked three contractors working on the Anyaa Sowutuom Agenda 111 hospital project in the Ga Central Municipality in the Greater Accra Region to report back to site and complete the project within two months, so as to have the project inaugurated before the end of the year.

The contractors are Top International Engineering (lead contractor), Phyness Developers, Marvglo Limited and Indegene Associates as their consultants.

He said the government attached much importance to the Agenda 111 hospital projects throughout the country and the various contractors working on them needed to speed up, especially those at the completion stages so they are inaugurated by the President before he leaves office.

Inspection

Dr Nsiah-Asare, who was accompanied by some officers from the Ministry of Health, the Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ambrose Edward Tsegah, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency, Dr Adomako Kissi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, Emmanuel Tobbin among others, gave the directive when he inspected the project to know the level of completion last Wednesday.

The government health advisor, however, lauded the contractors, especially Top International Engineering for the good and quality work they were doing which was almost 72 per cent complete.

He said the 100-bed capacity Anyaa Sowutuom Agenda 111 hospital project for the Ga Central Municipality was a big health facility with a children’s ward, two operating theatres, maternity block, laboratories, X-ray department, consulting rooms, accident emergency centre, male and female wards, energy room, kitchen among others.

He added that when completed, the hospital would reduce the cost of accessing healthcare at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital at Ridge and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, which sometimes led to the death of the patient due to the long distance from the municipality to the two hospitals.

Dr Nsiah-Asare stressed that the Agenda 111 hospital projects, which came out of the COVID-19 pandemic, were scattered in every district and region throughout the country, with almost 10 in the Greater Accra Region, including Sege, Prampram, Dansoman, Dzorwulo, Madina, Ashaiman, Tema West, Agbogbloshi, Kaneshie among others.

He said rumours were going around that the Agenda 111 hospital projects would not be continued and completed by the next government but he debunked them, saying “just as the NDC uncompleted projects were completed by this government, any government which I am sure is the same NPP government which will come back in 2025, will complete and inaugurate them for effective healthcare delivery for the people. “

After the inspection of the project, Dr Nsiah-Asare remarked that he was very happy that out of the three contractors, the lead contractor, Top International Engineering had already done most of the work he was supposed to do and needed about two weeks to complete his portion per the assessment of the consultant.

He also urged the other two contractors to work extra hard even if it demanded a shift system, just to ensure the work was completed on schedule for the inauguration.

Monitoring

The Consultant of the project, Romeo Kwasi Banyi Djan, assured the government advisor on health and the MCE that he was always at the sight monitoring the activities of contractors and would ensure the contractors did quality work and completed on schedule.

Mr Tsegah said the municipal hospital, when completed, would serve the municipality in diverse ways including social, economic, creation of both direct and indirect jobs and access to quality healthcare.
