Sunyani: Police parade suspected criminals

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command Tuesday paraded three suspected criminals at its regional headquarters for identification by the general public.

They are Kingsley Kwaku Yeboah, 21, who allegedly robbed his victim at Ohene Djan, a suburb of Abesim near Sunyani and managed to bolt away from the Sunyani Regional Hospital where he was placed under 24-hour guard.

The second suspect, Kwabena Sefa is said to have given Yeboah a place to hide when he bolted from the Sunyani Regional Hospital.

The third suspect, a 50-year old farmer, Soodoin Kondan, a resident of Mambarug, near Bunkpurugu in the Northern Region was arrested on Friday May 5, 2016 after the police identified him as the owner a quantity of ammunitions found on a Kumasi-Bunkprugu bound mini Tata Bus.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Christopher Tawiah told journalists in Sunyani that following a tip off, the police Highway Patrol Team on the Kintampo-Tamale road mounted a blockade at the outskirts of Kintampo and intercepted the vehicle with registration number UE 1162 C which was loaded with the ammunitions.

A search on the bus revealed four boxes containing 800 pieces of AAA ammunitions.

The driver of the bus, Konlan Kambele and his caretaker, Suuk Kombart were subsequently arrested when they were unable to identify the owner of the ammunition to assist the police in its investigations.

Subsequent investigations however revealed Soodoin Konlan as the owner of the ammunitions leading to his arrest.

During interrogations, Soodoin is said to have admitted ownership of the ammunitions indicating that he was transporting the cartridges to the town to sell on retain basis even though he was not licensed to do so.

Kingsley Kwaku Yeboah is alleged to have robbed Madam Kate Sam Wilson at Ohene Djan, a suburb of Abesim near Sunyani on May 2, 2016.

When he was arrested, the police had to take him to the Sunyani Regional Hospital because of the severity of injuries he sustained as a result of the assault on him by a mob who besieged the scene where he committed the crime.

He however managed to outwit both the hospital staff and the policeman who was detailed to give him a 24-hour guard, on May 5, 2016.

Yeboah was re-arrested at Kwatire, near Odomase, the capital of the Sunyani West District, together with Kwabena Sefa, alias Kwabena Dada who offered him a place to hide, at dawn on May 16, 2016.

Public interest

The identification exercise attracted a lot of people who trooped to the Regional Police Headquarters to catch a glimpse of the criminals, particularly Yeboah.

As they sat on the ground handcuffed, Yeboah kept on arguing with the policemen and at a point demanded to be offered an energy drink.

Items retrieved from the suspect included a locally manufactured pistol, four live cartridges, a bayonet, a kitchen knife, G3 ammunition, and a pair of handcuff key.

At least three people identified Yeboah as having robbed them in the Sunyani Municipality.

But police say they would have to come and make a formal complaint for action to be taken on their cases.

The suspects will soon be processed and arraigned before court.
