The items were made up of second-hand clothing, bags, soaps and detergents, as well as crutches.

At a presentation ceremony at Ankamadoa near Nsuta in the Sekyere Central District in the Ashanti Region, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the centre, Mrs Suzzy Wireko, who is a visually challenged person, asked the beneficiaries to make good use of the items.

She said the presentation of the items was based on the Christian principle to support the needy and that the centre would not relent in its efforts to complement government’s initiative to improve the welfare of  people living with disabilities (PWDs).

The Kumasi Metropolitan Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Apraku Nyarko, commended the centre for the gesture and advised PWDs to use occasions like community durbars and end-of-year get-togethers for education, unity and mobilisation of resources.

The Sekyere Central District Director of the Department of Social Welfare/Community Development, Ms Mary Gyesah, asked the PWDs to take interest in skills training.

The President of the GBU, Mr Nelson Ampate Acheampong, and the President of the Society for the Physically-Challenged in the district, Mr Kofi Banahene, who received the items, expressed their gratitude to the centre for its benevolence.
