Swift GNFS response saves 23 shops in Kejetia Market fire

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced that its prompt response to a fire outbreak at Kejetia Market successfully saved 23 shops from destruction.

In a statement issued on January 24 by the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer, Divisional Officer II Peter Addai, it was revealed that the fire affected two stores (S-1785 and S-1786) located on the second floor of the market complex.

He noted that the service arrived at the scene within six minutes of receiving the distress call at 5:27 pm. The fire was brought under control by 5:47 pm and fully extinguished at 5:58 pm.

"Thanks to intensified patrols, swift response, and tactical firefighting efforts, the team salvaged 23 shops out of 25, preventing the fire from spreading further. Using two 5kg CO₂ fire extinguishers, twenty-six 6kg dry chemical powder extinguishers, and water through a hose reel, the GNFS minimised damage to the affected stores," he stated.

Mr Addai confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.

"This rapid intervention underscores GNFS’s commitment to protecting lives and property in vital commercial areas such as Kejetia Market," he added.
