Talents Hour holds fun games for 'disable persons'

Talents Hour for Persons with Disability, an NGO, with focus on persons with disability last Tuesday organised fun games for persons with disability in Accra to mark this year’s World Disability Day.

The well attended event brought together many persons with disability from different parts of the Greater Accra Region.

Games played at the event, which was held at the Dome Atomic Park included amputee soccer, wheelchair basketball, ‘oware’, and eating competition.

The Founder of the Foundation, Mr Obeng Ansah, said the foundation organised the event to recognise the various contributions of persons with disability as well as to put some smiles on their faces.

He said the games were also meant to create awareness to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.

He said it was about time people took the issues of persons with disability seriously, adding that oftentimes, issues affecting persons living with disability were treated with contempt by many.

Mr Obeng Ansah said his foundations had been struggling to get sponsorship for programmes meant for persons with disability, calling on benevolent individuals and organisations to support activities meant for persons with disability.

He said Talent Hour as an NGO would continue to advance the rights and wellbeing of persons with disability, encouraging persons with disability not to see themselves as incapable but to find something to do in order to enable them make decent living.

Talent Hour for Persons with Disability was established with the aim of creating awareness for a better world that is inclusive, equitable and sustainable for everyone, where the rights of people with disabilities are fully realised.

In a speech read on his behalf, the President of the Ghana Minigolf Federation, Mr Talal Fattal, commended Talents Hour for the initiative, saying “I am particularly pleased with the past events of Talents hour for the disable as much as the 2019 Fun Games is concerned because this comes to buttress the organisations own believe in empowering persons with disability in all aspect of life including Sports.”

He said "as a federation it is our aim to promote the welfare and protection of persons with disability as well as empowering the vulnerable in the society through the use of social protection interventions such as sports to achieve national development."

He noted that the government on its parts must recognised the existence of inequalities for opportunities among marginalised person's, including persons with disability and the need to strategise through a pragmatic approach to bridge the gap.

Some of the participants praised Talents Hour for organising the games, pointing out that the event had given them hope that someone cared about them.
