Temporary closure of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue for urgent road repairs - AMA
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced a temporary closure of a section of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD) to allow for critical sectional repair works.
In a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs, Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the Assembly noted that the closure will begin at 8pm on Saturday and end at 12am on Sunday.
The affected stretch includes the U-turn area at Lava and the segment from the Derby Avenue/Kwame Nkrumah Avenue intersection to the Selwyn Market Street/Kwame Nkrumah Avenue intersection.
The AMA explained that the repair works had become necessary due to severe depressions and potholes that have developed along the road, hindering the smooth flow of traffic and posing safety hazards to both motorists and pedestrians.
During the closure, motorists are advised to use alternative routes and comply with traffic management arrangements to ensure public safety and minimise disruption.
The Assembly added that directional signs would be posted at key points, while personnel from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service will be on hand to direct traffic and ensure smooth movement.
The statement further indicated that following the initial repair works, paving works would be undertaken to improve the durability and overall condition of the road.
“The AMA deeply regrets any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause and appeals to all road users and residents to cooperate as the Assembly works to improve road infrastructure, enhance mobility, and promote safer and more efficient transportation within the city,” the statement read.
