The Mirror organises cookout session; Showcases Ghanaian dishes

Ghana’s leading weekend newspaper, The Mirror, last Saturday organised a cookout session in Accra to expose people to various Ghanaian dishes and how they are prepared.

The event, dubbed: “Afrocentric”, was in collaboration with a 2019 Mirror Model Mother, Rev. Dr Mrs Davina Markwei, and the Complete, Renewed, Equipped Women (CREW) of the Living Streams International (LSI) Church.

It formed part of the Model Mother’s role of mentoring, counselling and carrying out medical outreach programmes in communities.

Model Mother

The Mirror Model Mother is a campaign which celebrates ideal mothers in society with national and international appeal, especially on Mothers Day.

Dr Mrs Markwei is the first to be declared a Model Mother as a result of her love and passion for children and the work of God and some social intervention programmes she has undertaken in some communities within and outside Accra.

As a result of her hard work, she was honoured by The Mirror in May this year.

Cookout session

Patrons at the cookout session were exposed to a variety of ingredients used in preparing tasty Ghanaian meals.

In all, six groups from the LSI Church took part in the cooking contest.

They included the Indefatigable CREW Women, the Formidable Royals, the Awesome Kinderchurch from the Children’s Service of the church, the Young Adult Church Group, LSI branches at Teshie and Agege and the neighbours of the LSI Church.

Present were the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Ato Afful; the Assistant Editor of The Mirror, Mrs Hadiza Nuhhu-Billa Quansah; the Events and Promotions Manager of the GCGL, Mrs Abigail Hagan, members of the LSI and the public.

Significance

Rev. Dr Mrs Markwei said the cookout session was to encourage people to consume healthy plant-based local dishes.

She emphasised the importance of good health and the need to create awareness of the role food played in ensuring sound health.

“We must look inward and examine our habits. As mothers, wives, sisters and daughters who often wield power over food in our homes, the dietary choices we make can have ripple effects on our families,” she said, adding that people must eat well to ensure good health.
