This is why Joseph Badu Boateng aka Dada Joe Remix was arrested after a US extradition request
Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng, popularly known as “Dada Joe Remix,” has been arrested by Ghanaian authorities following an extradition request from the United States in connection with a decade-long international fraud scheme.
The arrest, which took place on May 28, 2025, was based on an unsealed indictment issued by a grand jury in the District of Arizona on May 30. The indictment charges Boateng with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering.
According to court documents released by the U.S. Department of Justice, Boateng and his co-conspirators allegedly orchestrated a romance and inheritance scam from as early as 2013 through March 2023. The scheme is said to have targeted elderly American victims and others around the world by deceiving them into believing they were entitled to large inheritances or owned valuable assets such as gold and jewels.
The documents further allege that Boateng and his network lured victims by falsely claiming that in order to access these supposed assets, they would need to pay taxes, fees, or other fabricated charges. The FBI, which led the investigation, said the fraudulent operation resulted in victims transferring substantial sums of money under false pretences.
“These co-conspirators used fake romantic relationships and inheritance claims as part of a complex ruse to defraud individuals of their savings,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office noted in its statement. “The victims, many of them elderly and vulnerable, were manipulated through emotionally charged scams.”
The indictment forms part of a broader crackdown by the U.S. Department of Justice on transnational crimes targeting older Americans, especially those involving romance fraud and inheritance scams. The Justice Department has reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting those who exploit the elderly through sophisticated internet-based fraud schemes.
Boateng’s extradition process is currently underway, with Ghanaian and U.S. authorities cooperating under existing bilateral treaties. If extradited and convicted in the United States, Boateng could face lengthy prison time under federal sentencing guidelines.
The Justice Department stressed that all charges remain allegations at this stage, and Boateng is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
