Thousands throng Efua Sutherland Park for Nestlé Ghana’s 2025 Maggi Waakye Summit

Thousands of Ghanaians converged on the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra on Friday, December 26, to participate in the 2025 Maggi Waakye Summit organised by Nestlé Ghana Limited.

Beyond food, the event was designed as a family-friendly celebration, featuring live band performances, music and DJ sessions, family games, and dedicated children’s attractions such as bouncy castles and quad bikes.

The aim was to create a wholesome experience where families could eat, relax, socialise and celebrate together.

Commitment

Nestlé Ghana’s Category Manager for Culinary, Mark Okyere-Mensah, says the company’s participation in the 2025 Waakye Summit reflects its commitment to the philosophy of “Good food for a good life,” especially during the festive season when food plays a central role in bringing people together.

He explained that Nestlé, through its seasoning brand Maggi, deliberately positions itself at major food-related gatherings where people connect over shared meals.

This, he noted, is why the company partnered Lilun, the main organiser of the Waakye Summit, for this year’s event.

According to Okyere-Mensah, the seventh edition of the Waakye Summit is significantly bigger and more exciting than previous ones, having incorporated lessons learned over the years.

He stressed that Maggi’s presence at the 2025 Waakye Summit was essential because waakye is one of Ghana’s most celebrated foods, enjoyed both locally and internationally.

As a leading brand in the seasoning category, Maggi plays a key role in enhancing the taste of waakye and its accompanying sauces, making its participation in the festival both relevant and strategic.

"Attendance has already exceeded 5,000 people, with expectations of reaching over 10,000 participants, offering Maggi a direct connection with consumers," he said.

Role of Maggi

The Brands Manager for Maggi at Nestlé Ghana, Magherita Amon, highlighted the central role of seasoning—particularly Maggi—in delivering the authentic taste of waakye and waakye shitor, describing it as the essential ingredient that brings out the dish’s signature flavour.

She stressed that Maggi enhances both taste and quality, noting that Nestlé’s strong reputation for quality assurance means any meal prepared with Maggi delivers consistency, rich flavour and a premium food experience.

According to her, waakye vendors who cook with Maggi automatically elevate the quality of their meals, reinforcing the brand’s appeal during the festive season.

Ms Amon explained that the Maggi Waakye Summit was organised as an end-of-year celebration to bring together not only consumers but also waakye operators from various communities. The selected vendors, she said, represent top waakye sellers across different neighbourhoods, ensuring broad community representation rather than focusing on a single area.

"So today we are having the Maggi Wache Festival. And you know, it's the end of the year and we are having celebrations. What a better way to celebrate, not just the consumers, but with our food operators," she said.

"Because it also gives them the opportunity to meet their clients and we bring all of them together to have a big celebration. So we are here to celebrate with various waakye operators selected from various communities," she said.

In her closing remarks, Ms Amon encouraged the public to enjoy the festive season, rest, and share good food with loved ones, wishing everyone a delicious end-of-year celebration and looking ahead to the new year with renewed energy.
