Three bodies donate medical equipment to Yendi Municipal Hospital

A medical team from Washington Missouri in the United States of America (USA), in collaboration with the Ghana Baptist Convention Churches in Yendi and Care Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has donated medical equipment estimated to cost US$140,000 to the Yendi Municipal Hospital in the Northern Region.

The equipment, which included surgical and anaesthetic machines, examination tables, stethoscopes, incubators, gloves and masks, is meant to help the hospital, which is a referral facility within the Eastern Corridor area in the Northern Region, to deliver quality health care to the people of Yendi and its environs.

Aside from the donation of the medical equipment, the team of doctors and nurses, numbering about 44, including surgeons and gynaecologists from the USA, would be in the hospital from January 4 to 11, 2016 to provide free specialist services in the areas of obstetrics, gynaecology and surgery.

Quality health care

The Baptist Missionary in charge of the Northeastern Mission Field, Reverend Emmanuel Kwabena Mustapha, who presented the medical equipment on behalf of the team to the hospital on Saturday, January 2, 2016, said it was to support the provision of quality healthcare in the area.

He said the church and its partners would continue to collaborate with government agencies in the municipality to improve the living conditions of the people.

The Medical Superintendent of the Yendi Municipal Hospital, Dr Ayuba Abdulai, who received the equipment on behalf of the hospital, thanked the donors for the support.

He added that the donation of the equipment, especially the incubators, had come at the right time since the hospital lacked incubators, and called on other people to emulate the donors to support the hospital to meet the health needs of people in the area.

Dr Abdulai, who is also an obstetrician/gynaecologist, said the hospital usually attended to over 250 out-patient department (OPD) cases and on market days, more than 450 patients.

Appreciation
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Yendi, Alhaji Issah Zakaria, also expressed his appreciation to the donors and stated that the assembly would continue to partner development-oriented individuals, groups and organisations to improve the living conditions of the people.

In an address read on his behalf, the Regent of Dagbon, Kampakuya Na Yakubu Abdulai Andani, said the traditional council was prepared to collaborate with groups and individuals to develop the area.
