Trader arrested for possession of dangerous drugs and unlicensed firearm

A 30-year-old trader, Mohammed Amidu, has been arrested by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command for possessing suspected dangerous drugs and an unlicensed firearm at Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Accra.

The arrest followed intelligence gathered by the police indicating that the suspect was in possession of and distributing restricted drugs. According to a police statement, Amidu admitted during initial questioning that he had drugs in his possession and had sold some to an individual in the area.

A team from the Accra Command was deployed to the location, where Amidu was identified and arrested. A subsequent search of his premises led to the discovery of several restricted and prescription-only drugs, including Tramico 225, Tramaking 225, Tafrodol 225, commonly known as “RED” or “Wo Nim Red?” and Diazepam 10, often referred to as “Blue-Blue” or “Valium 10.”

The police also recovered a concealed pump-action firearm hidden in a sack inside the suspect’s shop. Amidu admitted ownership of the drugs but claimed the firearm belonged to an unknown individual whose identity he could not provide.

He has been arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court, facing charges of possession of dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The police have reiterated their appeal to the public to continue providing credible information to support the fight against crime and assured informants of full confidentiality and safety.
