The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals for the unlawful possession of firearms following an intelligence-led operation by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit.
According to a police statement, the operation took place on Tuesday, July 9, at identified criminal hideouts in Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie. The operation resulted in the arrest of two suspects, identified as Kwadwo Acheampong, aged 21, and James Antwi Adjei, aged 24.
During the search, police recovered two pump-action shotguns, one bearing the serial number ASAO 2164 2021 and another without a serial number.
Preliminary investigations suggest that both firearms may have been stolen and were likely intended for use in armed robbery activities within the Atwima districts and the greater Kumasi area.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. The recovered weapons have been retained as exhibits for evidential purposes.
The police assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses, and reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring public safety and combating crime across the region.
