With support from the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), the foundation has transcribed the two legislations into a braille version to enable the blind children to read and understand these legislations which affect the well-being of children.

The Project Officer of the Foundation, Ms Modupe Anorkplim Nukunu, said the foundation was committed to enabling children everywhere to understand major legislation governing their rights, to enable them live more fulfilling lives.

Vulnerable children

She noted that many vulnerable children, particularly the disabled, were forgotten in developing programmes and legislations that protected their rights and well-being.

Ms Nukunu said the foundation would support especially vulnerable children, to gain access to such valuable information that govern the lives of all children.

Children with disabilities are usually left out of the awareness creation programmes on some of these laws protecting children.

“They are also children who must have access to some of these laws and understand them and that is why we decided to do this,” she noted.

Gratitude

The Headmaster of the Cape Coast School for the Deaf and Blind, Mr Setumte Ametewee, thanked the foundation for its commitment to the well-being of children with disabilities and said such crucial support would help in the total development of the beneficiary children.

He called for support in the training of information communication technology studies for the school to enable the students to catch up with the fast advancing technological world.

The Head of the Blind Unit of the school, Mr Wilson Abugri Adeibo, also commended the foundation for the gesture.
