
Two robbery suspects killed in police shootout at Atebubu
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that two robbery suspects were fatally wounded during an anti-robbery operation at Atebubu in the Bono East Region on Tuesday, July 30, 2025.
According to a police statement, the incident occurred when a patrol team encountered an ongoing robbery attack targeting commuters along the Atebubu highway.
Upon sighting the officers, the armed gang opened fire on the police, prompting the team to return fire. Two suspects sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital, but were pronounced dead on arrival.
The remaining members of the gang managed to flee into a nearby bush and are currently being pursued.
A search conducted at the scene led to the retrieval of a short gun loaded with two live cartridges, four spent cartridges, and a machete.
The Police said efforts were underway to track down and arrest the remaining suspects and reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of commuters across the country.
