The move is also to support the college’s e-learning and teaching programme, which started a few years ago, to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning using Information and Communications Technology (ICT) facilities.

Matriculation ceremony

At a matriculation ceremony in Cape Coast to admit 8,199 students to pursue various programmes at the undergraduate level in the Southern Zone of the country, for the 2014/2015 academic year, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor  D.D. Kuupole, said the tablets had been imported into the country for distribution to the fresh students.

Those admitted were made up of 4,305 males and 3,814 females.

Prof. Kuupole said to help make the tablets functional for the students, Huawei Technologies had accepted to set up after-sales and servicing points in all the 10 regions to repair and teach students the use of the equipment.

He stated that with the current business arrangement, the university was also giving an opportunity to all other students of the Distance Education Programme to acquire tablets for their academic work.

Admissions

Prof. Kuupole said though over 22,000 applications were received for the  undergraduate programmes, the university could admit 16,770 qualified applicants nationwide, comprising 9,376 males and 7,394 females.

He noted that the gender ratio of 55.9 to 44.1 for males and females respectively was significant because the university was committed to achieving a one-to-one gender ratio.

The college also admitted 512 postgraduate students.

He advised the students to take their academic work seriously, complete assignments on time and make the best of their studies.
