UGMS 1998 class donates towards girl’s surgery
The Class of 1998 of the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) yesterday presented a cheque for GH¢5,000 to the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu in Accra.

The money is to help the centre carry out an operation on the over two-and-a-half-year-old Priscilla Madjitey suffering from a hole-in-heart.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of the class, Dr Andrews Kwabena-Adade, an anaesthetist consultant at the hospital, said the move was to help give back to society what it had contributed towards education in the country.
Heart surgery
According to him, “the donation will be done one at a time to save more lives in the society”.
Dr Kwabena-Adade explained that society’s contribution to education in the country must be fully appreciated so that the beneficiaries of education would understand the need to contribute towards helping the less-privileged in society.
He, therefore, appealed to philanthropists who had the means to come out in their numbers to help improve the living conditions of others.
The Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle Bu Heaching Hospital, Dr Lawrence Agyeman Sereboe, who received the cheque on behalf of the patient’s parents, Mr and Mrs Madjitey, commended the 1998 class for their kind gesture and urged them to support other patients in similar situations.
He gave an assurance that the surgery would be performed on the patient as soon as possible in order for her to regain her strength.
