VIDEO: Fire ravages Techiman Central Market, devastating shops and properties

A massive fire has engulfed the Techiman Central Market in the Bono East Region, leaving numerous shops in ruins and causing damage to goods and properties.

A video shared on the social media channels of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) shows the inferno raging through the market, as emergency services work tirelessly to contain it and prevent its spread to nearby areas.

The fire at Techiman Central Market is the latest in a troubling series of market fires that have occurred across Ghana in the aftermath of the December 7 elections.

On January 2, 2025, the Kantamanto Market was similarly devastated by a massive blaze. That incident destroyed hundreds of stalls, impacted thousands of traders, and caused massive economic losses.

The recurrence of such fires has raised serious concerns among traders, citizens, and authorities regarding the safety and infrastructure of Ghana’s vital commercial centres. Calls for improved fire prevention measures and upgraded market facilities have intensified in light of these incidents.

As emergency services continue to battle the blaze, the full extent of the damage at Techiman Central Market remains unclear. Authorities are expected to conduct investigations to determine the cause of the fire and propose measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
