Man, 31, jailed 7 years for defiling 5-year-old girl in Wa Zongo

A 31-year-old man, Issahaku Waris, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for defiling a five-year-old girl in Wa Zongo in the Upper West Region.

The sentence was handed down by the Wa Circuit Court on Friday, July 18, 2025. The case was presided over by His Lordship Jonathan Avogo.

According to the Upper West Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, April 24, 2025. 

Waris was arrested two days later, on Saturday, April 26, by officers of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service.

In a statement issued by the Command, the police said the arrest and trial followed careful investigation and assistance from the child’s family and members of the community.

The statement, signed by Deputy Regional Police Commander, Mr Peter Kwamena Kamasa, said the Command remains alert to offences against children and urges the public to report all such cases without delay.

Mr Kamasa added that protecting the rights of children is a responsibility shared by all.
