Women benefit from breast cancer screening
A number of women at Osu in Accra have benefited from free screening for breast cancer organised by Breast Care International and Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA).
The women, numbering about 900, were also screened for hepatitis B, hypertension, diabetes and malaria. Those with serious health problems were given first aid and referred to hospitals.
Breast cancer
In her message to the beneficiaries, the Chief Executive Officer of Breast Care International, Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai said breast cancer was curable, and cautioned women against thinking that the disease was spiritual.
She called on women to report breast problems to qualified medical practitioners rather than spiritualists, and asked them not to feel shy to consult qualified medical doctors on problems affecting their breasts.
She said there was a programme to aggressively create awareness of breast cancer among the youth to curb its upsurge in the country.
Bethel SDA
The Head Pastor of the Bethel SDA at Osu, Pastor Dr William Yaw Kpakpo Brown, said the church organised the screening to address the health needs of women.
He urged Ghanaians to exercise regularly to keep fit and stay healthy.
