Work on Poase bridge completed

Work on the Poase bridge that connects Sekondi to Takoradi in the Western Region has been completed.

The reconstruction of the bridge became necessary when it developed, what officials of the Department of Urban Roads described as, large structural cracks accompanied by spalling of the weakened concrete which exposed the corroded reinforcement.

The first bridge is believed to have been completed  in the early 1920s, before the construction of the Takoradi Harbour.

Today, it provides a critical connection to motorists moving in and out of Sekondi-Takoradi.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Amin Sulemani, as part of a two-day working visit to the Western Region, inspected the completed bridge, which is yet to be opened to traffic.

The completion of the GH¢4.9 million bridge, constructed by the  China Railway (Wuju) Group, is expected to facilitate movement from Sekondi to Takoradi especially by  the haulage trucks that carry volumes of goods to and from the two cities.

Alhaji Sulemani expressed satisfaction with the work, stating that "I am very pleased with what has been done here.”
