The pieces of materials in the form of posters, booklets and pull-outs on the Ebola disease were valued at GH¢457,000.

The materials are intended to support the government’s efforts to educate the public on the Ebola disease to create awareness before any suspected case was recorded in the country.

Handing over the items, the acting National Director of World Vision Ghana, Mrs Gifty Appiah said the donation was in fulfillment of the organisation’s pledge to the government to support the campaign to prevent an Ebola outbreak in the country.

Complementing gov’t efforts

As a child focused organisation, Mrs Appiah said it  was committed to supporting the government to help prevent  the infection and spread of the  virus in Ghana.

Therefore, she said the materials were expected to help educate the public on the best practices to adopt in order to avoid the disease.

The Deputy Director General of the GHS, Mrs Gloria Quansah Asare, who received the materials on behalf of the government, said the disease had become a global epidemic which needed to be controlled.

Although Ghana had not recorded any case of Ebola, she said it was very important for the public to be educated on the disease to protect themselves and to avoid an outbreak.

Caution

She further advised the public to cook all foods very well before eating, especially bush meat, wash their hands regularly with soap under clean running water and avoid handshakes and contacts with live or dead bats as well as  dead bodies.

She explained that the materials would be sent to the various districts which would then distribute them to the communities for further distribution to the people.

Mrs Asare expressed appreciation to World Vision Ghana for the support and urged other organisations to support the GHS in the Ebola education campaign.
