YEA partners Shatta Wale’s SHAXI to support drivers with fuel coupons

The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has announced a new arrangement with musician Shatta Wale and his SHAXI ride-hailing service to help create jobs for young Ghanaians in the transport sector.

Under the agreement, the YEA is to provide fuel support to the first 2,000 vehicles that join the SHAXI platform.

Each of these vehicles will receive fuel coupons worth GH¢500 every month for six months.

The scheme is intended to reduce the day-to-day running costs of commercial vehicles while encouraging young people to enter the transport business.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, May 31, 2025, the Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Malik Basintale, said the initiative is one way to address unemployment among the youth through practical support.

“This move is designed to ease the operational cost for drivers and encourage more youth participation in the transport business,” Mr Basintale said.

He also noted that SHAXI vehicles that operate around the clock would receive extra support.

SHAXI, which was launched by Shatta Wale in 2021, is a technology-based transport service created to give unemployed youth a chance to work and earn an income. The YEA’s involvement is expected to help the service grow and reach more communities across the country.
