Zonta honours award winner
Zonta International, an international service organisation with the mission of advancing the status of women, has presented a cheque for $1,000 to Miss Sofia Akuffo Minkah-Premo, the winner of the 2016 Young Women in Public Affairs Award (YWPA) at the district level.
Miss Minkah-Premo, a former student of SOS Hermann Gmeiner International College, was rewarded for her volunteering spirit and public service in line with the aspirations of Zonta International.
Miss Minkah-Premo was recognised particularly for co-founding an initiative for sickle cell patients at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
She also embarked on projects such as refurbishing and renovating a local school and organising some activities in the school.
Presenting the cheque to her in Accra last Tuesday, the Governor of District 18 of Zonta International, Mrs Anne-Marie French Cudjoe, commended Miss Minkah-Premo for a cause well chosen.
The District 18 is made up of countries such as Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Senegal and Uganda.
For her part, the President of Zonta Club of Accra II, Mrs Rachel Baddoo, said “Zonta wants to encourage ladies like Sofia to continue being public-spirited.”
She said only two Ghanaians had won at the international level since the inception of the awards in 1990.
Gratitude
Receiving the award, Miss Minkah-Premo expressed her gratitude for the recognition and pledged to continue with the good work.
