NPP to hold national conference in Tamale on April 12
The New Patriotic Party will hold a centralised national delegates conference in Tamale on April 12, 2014, a meeting of the party’s national council has decided.
The conference to elect national executives is the highest decision making body of the party and the new conference format replaces an earlier decision to hold the event regionally.
NPP Director of Elections, Mr Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah confirmed the new programme in a chat with Asempa FM, and added that the decision to hold the conference in Tamale also fulfils the desire of the party to rotate conference venues nationwide.
The party will vet applicants seeking to contest national executive positions on the 12th and 13th February.
Mr Adjei-Mensah said the decision to revert to the original conference format was informed by suggestions to further deliberate on the innovative regional conference system so as not to infringe on the party’s own constitution.
There were suggestions also in the future to seek amendment of the party’s constitution to enable it separate the delegate’s conference from the elections of party officers to afford delegates proper time to thoroughly deliberate issues affecting the party. Click to listen to the interview.
