Ablakwa condemns NDC youth attacks on state properties, warns of legal consequences
North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP) Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has issued a stern rebuke to youth aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who have reportedly attacked state institutions and taken over properties following the party's electoral victory.
He described their actions as “lawlessness” and warned they would face the full force of the law without intervention from the party’s leadership.

Speaking on TV3 on Tuesday, December 10, Mr Ablakwa stated: “If you are arrested, don’t expect any of us to come and defend you because what you have done, you don’t have our permission to do that. Our leader is a peaceful leader, and so you have to be law-abiding in celebration. Don’t take over state institutions.”
His comments follow reports of an attempted forcible entry by a group of youth at the headquarters of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (GNGCL) in Accra. In a video widely circulated online, the youth are seen trying to breach the premises' main gate, raising concerns about post-election disturbances.
The MP also lamented the recurrent pattern of such incidents after elections, calling for an end to the practice: “This conduct has been happening election after election, but it must stop. It does not reflect the values of the NDC or our leader, John Dramani Mahama.”
Party leadership calls for restraint
The actions of the youth have occurred despite appeals from the NDC National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, for supporters to celebrate responsibly. Addressing the media last Monday, Mr Gyamfi urged: “Exercise restraint in your celebration. We must show that we are responsible citizens. You can’t engage in vandalism, attacks or looting state properties; it is against the law. Ours is a law-abiding party. We want you to live to see Mahama sworn into office.”
Mr Gyamfi’s plea came against the backdrop of reports of violence, including the tragic deaths of two NDC supporters at Akomadan.
Mahama’s call for unity
President-elect John Dramani Mahama also emphasised calm and lawful behaviour during his victory speech, urging NDC members to refrain from acts of vandalism and violence. He stated, “Let us channel our energy into rebuilding our nation. Be brief in your celebration and focus on the work ahead.”
