‘Avoid personal interest in selection of MMDCEs’

The Kpando Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kwame Gbogblogbe, has called on the President to nominate a qualified and experienced person to be the next municipal chief executive for the assembly.

He observed that if personal interest which was often put above community good in the selection of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) was not discouraged, the exercise would end up in chaos as being experienced in certain parts of the country.

Mr Gbogblogbe made the call in an interview with the Daily Graphic last week after he accompanied the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpando, Mrs Della Sowah, and other party executives to present food items on behalf of the President to the Zongo Community at Kpando for the celebration of the Eid ul Fitr.

The items included rice, cooking oil and beverages.

Mr Gbogblogbe asked the President to rely on proper information in his nomination of the MCE, pointing out that “this is the cry of the majority of the people in the municipality.”

He, however, expressed disappointment with the fact that as a party executive for several years and also an opinion leader in the municipality, nobody had sought his opinion on the issue.

Presenting the food items, Mrs Sowah made reference to the universal law that operates everywhere, adding that “it is the law of giving to the less privileged which brought untold blessings on the giver.”

She advised Muslim leaders to caution their youth not to be used by anyone to engage in violence after the upcoming election petition verdict by the Supreme Court.

Mrs Sowah added that Ghana had enjoyed peace internationally and nothing should be allowed to destroy the gains of democracy.

The Kpando Zongo Community leader, Chief Abass, thanked the delegation for the gesture and assured them that no true Muslim practising the words of the Koran would engage in violence.
