Bryan Acheampong sets up exploratory committee for NPP flagbearership bid
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to assess the viability of a potential leadership bid within the party.
The decision follows what he says was a growing encouragement from party faithful and extensive consultations with family and close associates.
Dr Acheampong, a former Minister of Food and Agriculture under the Akufo-Addo administration, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
He emphasised his lifelong commitment to the NPP, highlighting his experiences as a grassroots organiser, party staffer, four-term MP, Cabinet Minister, and long-time party financier.
"I have served the NPP faithfully, supported many, and helped shape impactful policies. Everything within me and every resource at my disposal have been put to the service of the party, and I will continue to serve," he said.
Committee
The committee will engage key stakeholders across the party's structures, including grassroots members and constituents, to assess whether his vision aligns with the aspirations of the NPP and the people of Ghana.
The committee is expected to share its findings within four weeks.
"This dedicated committee shares my commitment not only to discipline and unity within the party but also to job creation, food security, youth and infrastructure development, safety and security, and good governance within our nation," he stated.
Unity
Dr Acheampong urged party members to remain steadfast in spirit and decorous in conduct in the pursuit of progress, inclusivity, and effective leadership for the country.
"To our foot soldiers and all NPP faithful, I firmly believe in the party’s capacity to overcome its challenges and once again lead the country towards a brighter future," he said.
