CPP leadership must get its acts right

A former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Samuel Kwabena Danso, has asked the party’s leadership to get its acts right ahead of election 2016.

He said there should be no time to waste, hence the need for the leaders to move quickly to unite and get the party’s structures at all levels functional to have a realistic chance of performing well at the polls.

He said if the leaders continued to remain divided and refused to find a common ground then “we should forget about 2016, because I am afraid it would be pretty difficult to even find candidates to contest the elections.”

Mr Danso told the Ghana News Agency that he found it deeply worrying that repeated appeals and representations made to the leadership to focus on organising the CPP into a formidable political entity had gone unheeded.

He said the result was that the party was gradually but steadily sinking into oblivion and nobody was making any effort to save it.

Mr Danso said there was the need for the CPP to resolve the long-standing misunderstanding among the leadership.

He appealed to the elders of the party to intervene to help the chairman, first and second vice chairmen to get over their differences.

Mr Danso made reference to preparations being made by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) towards the upcoming general election and the CPP could not afford to remain on the sidelines.

“It is not a healthy sign that the party has not been able to hold regional, constituency and ward conferences to elect officers to manage its affairs – two years away from the presidential and parliamentary elections,” he said. —  GNA
