Don’t be apprehensive about military deployment – Ghana Armed Forces tells public

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has told the public not to be apprehensive about the deployment of military personnel to certain locations.

Such deployments, the GAF said, were still ongoing as part of the election security mechanism, and were being done in support of the Ghana Police Service, which remained primarily responsible for election security.

A statement signed by the Director of Public Relations of the GAF, Brigadier General E Aggrey Quarshie, reiterated that no soldier would be stationed at any polling station.

“GAF’s presence will be limited to standby support, with the primary responsibility for election security remaining with the Ghana Police Service (GPS),” the statement said.

“The military will only be deployed upon request by the GPS. This collaborative approach ensures that the elections proceed smoothly and peacefully while maintaining law and order," the statement added.

The GAF further urged the electorate to cast their votes peacefully and desist from engaging in any vices that would jeopardise the peace of the country and the electoral process

“GAF wishes to once again encourage all Ghanaians to exercise their civic rights responsibly, cooperate with security personnel and refrain from any acts that could disrupt the peace," the statement stated.

“GAF reiterates its commitment to safeguarding the stability and sovereignty of the nation while protecting the integrity of the election process,” it added.
