EC suspends collation of results in Ablekuma North for 24 hours due to issues with 20 polling station results

The Electoral Commission (EC) has suspended the collation process for parliamentary election results at the Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region due to authentication issues with 20 out of the 62 outstanding polling station results.

The results [pink sheets] presented by the political parties, according to Vincent Obeng, the Returning Officer for the constituency need to be verified before the winner can be declared.

This is happening because of the disruption of the process and destruction of some pink sheets on the night of the election, December 7 at the collation centre.

As a result, the EC itself does not have all the pink sheets, the political parties and their candidates do not also have all the pink sheets.

There are some soft copies provided by each side and the EC and the candidates have agreed that they will accept them after the Returning Officer has authenticated them.

In circumstances where there are discrepancies, the polling station presiding officers will be contacted to help authenticate them,

Explaining why the process has been suspended on Sunday afternoon after the collation of some of them, the Returning Officer assured that he will study the pink sheets and resume the process within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Director of Research and Elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Evans Nimako has urged party supporters to remain calm, stating that the NPP believes in the rule of law and will allow due process to take its course.
