Addressing a news conference in Accra yesterday, the chairman of the institute, Alex Segbefia, said the Chief of Staff and seasoned public servant, Julius Debrah, will chair the event.

The 13th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture is part of a series of activities to commemorate the 13th anniversary of Prof. Mills' passing.

Other events announced at the news conference, included a wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service on Thursday, July 24, this year at 9 a.m. at the Asomdwee Park, the final resting place of President Atta Mills.

The final activity will be the Atta Mills Memorial Hockey Tournament in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, this year at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.

This sporting event, Mr Segbefia said, would celebrate one of Prof. Mills' passions, hockey, and promote youth development and discipline.

“This ceremony provides an opportunity for friends, family, admirers and citizens to pay tribute to a leader who embodied humility, integrity and selfless service,” he said.

Legacy

Mr Segbefia explained that since the heritage was established in 2021,it had served as a vehicle to preserve the legacy of Prof. Millls.

In line with that, he said the memorial heritage had begun work on a comprehensive document about the life and works of Prof Mills.

The visual project, he said, was aimed at protecting the values and works of Prof. Mills to preserve his story for future generations.

He urged well-meaning Ghanaians to support the memorial heritage initiatives to help preserve the former President’s legacy.

Memorial heritage

The JEA Mills Memorial Heritage was launched in 2022 as an initiative to immortalise the persona and legacy of the late former President.

The initiative seeks to honour the legacy of Prof. Mills as one of Ghana’s most reputable Presidents.

It was put together by a group of academics, friends, family members and former government appointees who served under his presidency.

The initiative is led by Alex Segbefia as Chairman, with members including  Samuel Atta Mills,  Emmanuel Siisi Quainoo and Nana Oye Bampoe Addo.
