CPP crisis: Take charge of national leadership - Central Committee tasks regional chairmen
The Central Committee of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has asked its 16 regional chairmen to assume national leadership to end the current leadership chaos.
It asked the 16 chairmen to also guide the party through the few months of reorganisation ahead of the election of substantive party executives at all levels.
Resolutions
A statement issued in Accra yesterday and signed by the Head of Publicity and Communications, Ali Dayinday Salifu, said the decisions were taken at the Central Committee meeting on April 16, 2026, at the party’s national headquarters after comprehensive deliberations on matters about the national leadership of the party and upon careful examination of all presentations, reports and stakeholder submissions.
In line with that, it said the new national leadership was tasked with forming five working committees to perform specific duties, with some party-appointed members to head the committees.
It said the Head of Operations and Special Duties would be Godwin Opare Addo; Head of Strategy, Planning and Evaluation, Nana Mireku Tumi; Head of Organisation, Galo Emmanuel; Head of Legal, Arbitration and Discipline, Wayo-Ghanamannti and Head of Publicity and Communication, Ali Dayinday Salifu.
Resources
The statement also stated that all budgetary and resource commitments shall be developed and implemented by the regional chairmen.
It said the five committees shall establish appropriate mechanisms to monitor and evaluate the progress of party development across the regions.
It said further action was required for periodic follow-up meetings, reporting and reviews.
“The committee reaffirms its commitment to the organisational goals and guiding principles of the Convention People’s Party and urges all relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective and full implementation of this resolution,” it stated.
Background
The CPP, on March 26 this year, inaugurated a seven-member committee to steer the reorganisation of the party’s structures across the country, with the acting Chairman being Moses Amadu Yahaya.
However, the party's Regional Chairmen Caucus issued a counterstatement and called on the Council of Elders to revoke all appointments to the National Working Committee.
A statement signed in Accra and issued by the Greater Accra Regional of the CPP, Godwin Opare Addo, on behalf of the Regional Chairmen Caucus, said the National Working Committee was not a constitutional organ and could not replace the Central Committee, which “is recognised as the highest administrative body and the directing mind of the party.”
