Ho Central MP condemns attack on constituency office by arsonists

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, has distanced himself from the vandalism and arson carried out at the party’s constituency office in Ho on Tuesday evening and called on the police to expedite investigations into the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.

An official statement issued on Wednesday, January 22, and signed by the MP said such actions did not reflect the values and principles of the constituents of Ho Central and the NDC as a whole.

“I stand firmly against any form of violence or vandalism and unpatriotic behaviour; these actions do not represent the people of Ho Central, nor do they align with our shared values of respect, dialogue and peace,” the MP added.

Mr Kpotosu acknowledged what he described as the feelings of discontent that may arise from President Mahama’s ministerial appointments but insisted such grievance could only be expressed through peaceful and constructive means.

He urged the constituents to remain calm. The MP said disagreement was a vital part of democracy, but it must be channelled through positive engagement, and not through acts of aggression and destruction.

“I respect the process of appointments as events are still evolving and I stand with the decisions of the President,” he affirmed.

The Ho Central MP said he remained dedicated to serving the best interests of the people of the constituency and ensuring their voices were heard in a respectful manner.

Recall

Unidentified persons on Tuesday evening set the Ho Central Constituency office of the NDC on fire.

This was after they broke into the office and threw out the furniture, office equipment, documents and other items.

They set the items ablaze with lorry tyres in the forecourt of the office, causing fear and alarm among motorists and residents along the road between the Ho Central Market and Ho-Dome.

The incident took place at about 7:00pm. Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service turned up at the scene in good time to put out the fire.

Some eyewitnesses told the Daily Graphic the unidentified persons who carried the arson were masked.

Some members of the NDC, who rushed to the scene, blamed the fire on a few disgruntled members of the party who were bitter.

President Mahama did not consider anyone from the constituency for a ministerial appointment.

Police investigations into the matter are underway.
