NCCE commiserates with govt, families of 8 killed in helicopter crash

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has expressed condolences to the government and families of the eight persons, including Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash. 

In a press release dated August 7, 2025, and signed by the Chairperson of the Commission, Kathleen Addy, the NCCE described the incident as a loss to the Republic and said the Commission was deeply shaken by the event.

The Commission extended its condolences to the President, the government, and the entire nation, and said its thoughts were with the bereaved families.

The statement read that one of the deceased, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, had previously served as a volunteer with the Northern Regional Office of the NCCE.

“One of the perished patriots, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, served as a volunteer with the Northern Regional Office of the NCCE. He was also the President of the University of Ghana’s Chapter of NCCE’s Civic Education Club, where he played an impactful role during his time as a student at the University,” it read.

The Commission prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and said their sacrifice should inspire a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility among the citizenry.

The NCCE also called on the country to remain united in mourning the eight men who died in the line of duty.

The tragedy happened on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District in the Ashanti Region, which claimed the lives of the Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah and the Environment Minister, Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed; acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Muniru Mohammed Limuna; Vice-Chairman of the ruling National

Democratic Congress, Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate; Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; Flying Officer Twum Ampadu and sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
