NPP flagbearship: Adutwum pledges clean campaign ... After filing nomination

A former Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, yesterday officially launched his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 elections by filing his nomination to contest the flagbearership scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Dr Adutwum, who is the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Bosomtwe in the Ashanti Region, was led by his supporters to the headquarters of the NPP at Asylum Down in Accra.

Accompanied by his wife and some former chief executive officers, Dr Adutwum’s supporters carried placards with inscriptions such as: ‘From classroom to flag bearer – Teacher for

All,’ ‘Hope for all, There is more room for everyone,’ and ‘Adutwum, the transformation leader Ghana needs.’

Supporters

Clad in T-shirts bearing his image, the supporters broke into a jama session as Dr Adutwum, brimming with confidence, went through the formalities on the balcony of the party’s headquarters building.

Dr Adutwum later declared that the journey to lead the party in the 2028 elections had begun.

"I, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, come through this process with humility.

I am going to hold a very clean campaign, a campaign about what I have done and what I would do for my party and my nation, a campaign without acrimony, a campaign without insults, a campaign full of respect.

That is what my campaign will be about," he said.

Opportunity

Dr Adutwum, using a blend of English and Twi, said having been given the opportunity by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he began transforming public schools.

He said he began his work by introducing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education to the country, revamping technical and vocational education and training, among other initiatives, with visible results for all to see.

He said he believed in evidence-based communication, stressing that his achievements were visible for all to see, and described himself as a ‘can-do’ flag bearer who acted rather than merely talked.

“Adutwum will deliver—he doesn’t just talk,” he said, adding that while all past presidents had played their part, he too would do his share if given the opportunity to lead the NPP to victory in 2028.

He explained that the ‘Adutwum Factor’ was about waging war against poverty—and winning—adding that the success of the people would ultimately reflect on the progress of the nation.

The country, he said, would change for the better by voting for him and, therefore, urged the delegates to do so.

As part of the process of contesting the flagbearership, the NPP presidential candidate aspirants are required to pay GH¢600,000, made up of a non-refundable nomination fee of GH¢100,000 and a filing fee of GH¢500,000, both payable by banker's draft to the NPP National Headquarters.
