Odoley Sowah eyes La-Dadekotopon MP seat
The former Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) under the erstwhile John Mahama administration, Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, has declared her intention to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries for onward election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the La-Dadekotopon Constituency.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Ms Odoley Sowah affirmed her intention to contest the primaries on the ticket of the NDC when nominations were opened, saying her motivation was to make the people of La independent, indicating her commitment to improving the lives of the people of the constituency.
She noted that it was time for women to participate actively in politics at all levels of government and demand the adoption and implementation of policies and programmes that would unburden and transform the lives of women.

She therefore called on women-interest stakeholders, particularly the Government of Ghana, the Parliament of Ghana, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, civil society organisations, the media and the public to intensify efforts at addressing challenges confronting women in Ghana.
Don’t underrate yourself
Ms Sowah also urged women not to underrate themselves but take up challenging roles to bring out their best qualities.
She bemoaned the slow pace at which developmental projects initiated by the previous administration were being executed, while others had stalled.
She noted that since she left office as MCE for LaDMA, nothing much had been done for the municipality.
She said the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly undertook massive development during her tenure as MCE as she related with the people and worked hand in hand with the technocrats to achieve more for the municipality.
She added that the people of La needed somebody who would bring development to the area.
Sense of belongingness
Ms Sowah also mentioned that if given the nod as MP, she would make the grass roots feel a sense of belonging through acceptable discourse so that the people would love to come out to help the NDC.

She also called for the people’s support by urging the electorate to consider the fact that women’s representation in Parliament ought to increase to further help in the development of the country.
“It is time for a woman to lead the people of La Dadekotopon as a Member of Parliament to bring more development,” she added.
