January 31 primary must be about leadership, not camps – George Andah tells NPP
A former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Nenyi George Andah, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rise above internal factional alignments and refocus attention on leadership, preparedness and national responsibility as January 31 approaches.
Mr Andah, who is also a communications professional, said the date should be a moment for sober reflection on the kind of leadership required to govern Ghana, rather than an occasion for the entrenchment of internal camps within the party.
“January 31 should remind us of leadership and readiness to govern Ghana — not camps,” he said in an interview.
He stressed that strong political parties are founded on shared values, discipline and a clear unity of purpose, and not on factional loyalty or internal divisions. According to him, the long-term strength and credibility of the NPP depended on its ability to demonstrate maturity and cohesion at critical moments.
Mr Andah expressed confidence that the party could navigate the period with wisdom, noting that such reflection was essential if it was to position itself as a credible governing alternative.
While acknowledging individuals who had stepped forward to offer themselves for leadership roles, he commended their courage and commitment to public service. However, he emphasised that unity must remain the overriding principle guiding the party’s actions.
“To those who have stepped forward to serve, I respect your courage. To our party, I call for unity. To Ghana, I stand for leadership,” he said.
He concluded by stating that only a united and disciplined political party could credibly present leadership worthy of the trust and confidence of the Ghanaian people.
