Kyei Baffour rejected as MCE
Members of the Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly have rejected the President’s appointee for the post of Municipal Chief Executive, Mr George Kyei Baffour, at a meeting at Konongo.
While 18 of the assembly members voted NO, 17 of the 36 members voted YES at the meeting, with one rejected vote, representing only 47.22 per cent of the total number of the members present at the meeting.

This, therefore, makes it impossible for him to be given the chance of being voted for and could only come back if the President re-appoints him.
The confirmation, which was supervised by the staff of the Electoral Commission, was witnessed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah; his Deputy, Madam Elizabeth Agyemang, and other dignitaries such as the endorsed DCEs for Asante Akim North, Asante Akim South, Ahafo Ano North and some Ashanti Regional council of elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Madam Agyemang expressed shock at the outcome of the voting and urged the assembly members to unite and give him the nod when he is re-appointed by the President.
She reminded the members to desist from seeking their personal interest but to rather think of the party and the entire nation and put all differences behind them and support the appointee.
The Chief of Dwease, Nana Owusu Bempah, said the more the members continued to reject the President’s appointee, the more they delayed the development of the area and, therefore, urged them to reconsider their decision and give their massive support to the appointee when he is re-appointed.
Background
The nominee, Mr Kyei Baffour, who is a local government expert, served as a Presiding Member for the Asante Akim Central Municipality for six years during former President Agyekum Kufuor’s era.
