Let Ghanaians see we’ve learnt our lesson – Bawumia to NPP

Former Vice President and 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged members of his party to ensure that the lessons learnt from recent electoral and governance challenges are visibly demonstrated to the Ghanaian people.

Speaking at the NPP’s 2025 National Annual Delegates Conference in Accra today, Dr. Bawumia stated that the essence of the party’s reorganisation goes beyond preparing to win elections. Rather, he said, the goal must be to become a better vehicle for delivering good governance.

“We must be consistent in pursuance of our effort to address not just the challenges within but more importantly the challenges that bedevil our motherland,” he told the gathering of national and regional party stakeholders.

Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that the party had reflected deeply on its performance and identified key areas for improvement. He insisted that such introspection must be followed by visible actions.

“We have also learned useful lessons in how to improve some things in the future. We must remain resolute and consistent in doing the right things again and in applying the lessons the next time,” he said.

He continued, “We must ensure that Ghanaians genuinely see the lessons we have learnt and are willing to apply next time round. We shouldn’t be shy about them. It is then that our fellow country men and women will give us another opportunity to serve.”

The former Vice President also reflected on the broader context of governance under the Fourth Republic, acknowledging that the NPP has had both triumphs and setbacks under Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. However, he expressed confidence that the NPP’s positive impact would be remembered.

“In governance, there are ups and downs. Under President Kufuor and President Akufo-Addo, we have had our share of both. But I believe that our monumental achievements will stand the test of time,” he said.
