The intricate logistical machinery of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be put to the test tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, 2026, as over 200,000 delegates converge on a meticulously planned network of 277 voting centres to elect the party’s presidential aspirant for the 2028 general election.

The primary, a straight fight largely seen as between former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, will unfold not in a single arena but across a diverse tapestry of venues spanning every constituency in Ghana.

The official list of designated polling stations, reveals a deployment reliant on public infrastructure, with schools, community centres, churches, and parks serving as the bedrock of the electoral exercise.

In the Western Region, delegates will gather at locations such as the St. Martin’s Football Park in Daboase for Wassa East, the Community Park at Shama Junction, and the Fiaseman Senior High School (FIASEC) in Tarkwa for Nsuaem.

The Central Region’s plan showcases this variety, with voting set for the GNAT Hall in Cape Coast for Cape Coast North, the Victoria Park in Saltpond for Mfantseman, and the forecourt of the District Assembly building in Diaso for Upper Denkyira West. Notably, several venues, including the Centenary Hall in Assin Central Foso and the Ghana Highways Authority office in Winneba, are designated for use "outside," suggesting large outdoor gatherings.

Greater Accra, with its dense delegate population, will see activity in urban centres like the Presby Park at Alajo for Ayawaso Central, the Dzorwulu JHS for Ayawaso West Wuogon, and the Korle Bu Police Station for Ablekuma South. The Ashanti Region, a crucial stronghold, has mobilised venues including the ArmaJaro Cocoa Shed (Outside) in Asokwa, the Oforikrom Police Station (Outside), and the Old Fire Service Station in Offinso.

In the Northern Region, delegates will cast ballots at the Yendi Senior High School (Outside), the Lamashegu Primary School in Tamale South, and the Jubilee Park in Tolon. The Upper East Region will utilise the House of Chiefs premises in Bolgatanga Central, the Bongo District Assembly hall (Outside), and the Zebilla SHS (Outside) for Bawku West.

This nationwide map of 277 centres—one per constituency plus the party’s national headquarters—underscores the scale of the internal election. With no proxy voting allowed, the physical presence of delegates at these specific venues is mandatory.

The selection of often-central, well-known community landmarks is designed to ensure accessibility and order as the party seeks to smoothly execute a high-stakes contest that will ultimately answer the pressing question of who leads its bid for a return to power.
