President Mahama revokes appointment of Akufo-Addo's chief executives in metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies

President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES) appointed under the previous administration with immediate effect.

The decision was conveyed in a letter signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama.

The move is part of the Mahama administration’s plan to reorganise local governance to align with its policy objectives as the new government assumes office.

The revocation comes under the authority granted to the President by the Local Government Act of 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Government (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).

The appointments of MMDCES and assembly members under the relevant sections of the Act have been annulled.
