Mahama’s government committed to inclusivity, discipline, and efficiency – Ofosu Kwakye
Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Minister of State nominee for Government Communications, has assured Ghanaians that the government is committed to inclusivity, discipline, and efficiency in governance.
He stated that President John Mahama’s administration is deliberately balancing experience with youthful energy while ensuring representation across various demographics, including women and marginalized communities, in his nominations.
Speaking on the president’s commitment to gender balance, he highlighted that “48% of appointments at the presidency are women, the highest in Ghana’s history.”
He further noted that “out of the 42 ministerial appointments made so far, 27 percent are women, with 18 more positions to be filled,” signaling a push for greater female representation.
Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, January 31, Ofosu Kwakye defended the government’s approach to governance, stating that every region in Ghana has been considered in appointments.
He underscored that the administration is not solely comprised of National Democratic Congress (NDC) loyalists but includes individuals from academia, civil society, and even some critics of the party.
Addressing concerns about the size of government, he reiterated President Mahama’s promise to cap ministerial appointments at 60, a commitment he insists remains firm.
He assured that the government would enforce strict discipline among appointees, stating that “no official will be permitted to engage in small-scale mining, whether legal or illegal.”
He further cautioned against arrogance and misconduct among government officials, emphasizing that public service must be characterized by modesty and accountability.
