NCCE calls on Ghanaians to be patriotic
Mr Andrews Ofori Larbi, Awutu-Senya District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has expressed concern about the lack of patriotism among the citizenry, which is gradually affecting the development of the country.

In an interaction with the media at Awutu Bereku, Mr Larbi said lack of patriotism was gradually eating into the fabric of society and the earlier an antidote was found to the canker, the better it would be for the nation.
Mr Larbi added that communal labour had gone down considerably because of the unpatriotic attitude of some people who expected the government to provide all their needs.
He stated that the unpatriotic attitude of some Ghanaians had also affected the environment.
“People throw refuse anywhere, especially into gutters, making the drainage system choked, causing flooding when it rains,” he said.
Mr Larbi added: “The get-rich-quick attitude has taken precedence over patriotism," while galamsey operators were destroying water bodies and did not care whether people had potable water or not.
“Let us show love for our country and our people,” the NCCE District Director said.
On the political landscape, Mr Larbi expressed concern about the polarisation of the country, which had made people who belonged to a political divide that was not in power feel reluctant to cooperate with the government. That, he said, was the root of the problems confronting the nation.
He urged politicians to be mindful of their deeds and utterances to ensure that they promoted unity, which was a prerequisite for national development.
“The 2012 general election is over; what is needed now is to unite and plan how we can move the nation forward,” he said.
Mr Larbi urged workers to desist from activities which retard the development of the nation, such as lateness, absenteeism, corruption and misappropriation of state funds. - GNA
