NDC Branch Elections: Nii Ashitei Ashietey supports Klottey Korle Executives

A former Branch Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Klottey Korle Constituency, Nii Ashitei Ashietey, has announced a financial support package for branch executives in the constituency ahead of the party’s 2026 grassroots elections.

Mr Ashietey, a data analytics engineer, said he would fully pay nomination filing fees and membership dues for all branch executives within the constituency to ensure that no eligible party official is excluded from the electoral process because of financial difficulties.

The intervention comes as the NDC intensifies preparations for nationwide branch elections, widely regarded as a critical stage in shaping the party’s future leadership structure from the grassroots to the national level.

According to Mr Ashietey, the initiative is intended to remove financial obstacles that often discourage committed party members from taking active roles in internal party organisation and leadership.

“This support is about ensuring that financial barriers do not limit participation. We want committed individuals to step forward and contribute to building a stronger party at the grassroots level,” he stated.

He explained that strong branch structures remained central to the NDC’s long-term political organisation and electoral fortunes, stressing that empowering local executives was necessary for building a more resilient and united party.

Political analysts have long described branch elections within the NDC as a decisive process that influences constituency, regional and national leadership contests, making grassroots participation a significant factor in the party’s internal democratic system.

Mr Ashietey’s intervention is therefore being viewed by some observers as both a morale booster and a strategic move aimed at deepening participation and energising the party’s base within Klottey Korle.

Some party members and residents in the constituency have welcomed the gesture, describing it as timely, especially for younger executives and less-resourced aspirants who often struggle to meet administrative requirements associated with internal elections.

Others believe the support could improve competitiveness and inclusiveness in the electoral process by ensuring that branch executives are able to contest and retain active roles without financial pressure.

Mr Ashietey also reiterated his broader commitment to the political and organisational development of the constituency, insisting that investment in grassroots leadership remained one of the surest ways of strengthening the party ahead of future national contests.

The NDC’s branch elections form part of a wider reorganisation process expected to reshape party structures across the country as the opposition party prepares for upcoming political activities and future electoral engagements.
